9:50 am June 24^th, 2008 It was a clear, sunny day and I was enjoying the morning sitting in my room working on my computer. Suddenly, I heard somebody shouting “Fire”. I found that my house was on fire and smoke was billowing from the kitchen. I was fortunate that I could evacuate safely from my house. But, there was going to be a lot of loss.

The firefighters informed me that the damage was mostly in the kitchen. When I was allowed to survey the damage, I saw large broken window, melted plastic everywhere and there was a hole in the roof. One afternoon, I was sitting on the balcony of my condo. It was a hot sunny day and I was enjoying the breeze blowing off the lake. I was looking down towards the street below and enjoying some good music, I was in a cheerful mood. I didn’t notice that my reading lamp was left on because it was under my bed sheets. The mattress caught fire and I was not aware of it. It was my neighbor who yelled down to me from the balcony above to say that he smelled smoke. But, by that time, it was too late. My condo was on fire. I was fortunate that I got out of there by climbing down the building’s rickety fire escape. Luckily there were no injuries.
